MARK O'LOUGHLEN

When I first visited the South Dakota Children’s Museum in Brookings with my kids, I was hooked.  Visiting other museums across the country only intrigued me more and I am excited to be a part of organizing the museum here!

I am originally from Madison, SD where I served on the Police Department for 13 years as a Sergeant and K-9 handler.  We then purchased a restaurant in Thermopolis, WY (my wife’s hometown) and operated that for 5 years.  After selling the business, we moved back to South Dakota to Sioux Falls where I worked in sales for 2 different companies, eventually transferring to Rapid City.  When the opportunity opened in Box Elder, I was excited to become part of the team with the city.  I currently head Economic Development along with events and marketing for Box Elder.  In the past I served as a board member on the East River Electric Federal Credit Union, Thermopolis, WY Chamber of Commerce and as President of the Fraternal Order of Police lodge in Madison.

My wife Katie works for the United States Postal Service, and we have two wonderful daughters, Emma and Eryn.
