Is the Black Hills Children’s Museum a nonprofit?

Yes. We’re a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we’re in the middle of an active capital campaign to raise the funds to build the museum.

Where will the museum be located?

The museum will be built in Box Elder, South Dakota, in partnership with the City of Box Elder.

How much will it cost?

Our goal is to raise $34 million.

 

When are you breaking ground?

We’ll break ground when we have enough money raised to start the project – our goal is within the next two years.

 

When will the museum open?

This is a big and complicated build, and we’ll share a firm date once we’re further into the campaign and construction is scheduled.

What exhibits will be in the museum?

Think nature-based learning zones inspired by the Black Hills, hands-on themed exhibits around science and art, and spaces built for kids of all abilities. View all conceptual exhibits here.

Are you working with the City of Box Elder?

Yes. This whole project is a community-powered partnership between the City of Box Elder and the Black Hills Children’s Museum.

 

Will the museum be free?

No, we will charge an entry fee, but we will make sure there are discounted rates as appropriate.
